FIRST VISIT TO MALAYSIA ASSOCIATION FOR THE WELFARE OF MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN

A Visit that Leads us to Bring Our Team There

Throwback to 4th of March sunny afternoon, 3 members from our group kicked off their journey to the Malaysia Association for the Welfare of Mentally Challenged Children which is located at Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The distance is just  2.5 km from University of Malaya, which only took us 6 minutes by car to arrive. They arrived at the centre on 4 p.m. Malaysia Association for the Welfare of Mentally Challenged Children as established since 27 March 2012. The association provides an all-day comprehensive humane assistance of children with mental disabilities and endeavors in building a safe and open living space to offer the children the superior conditions for healthy psychological growth. As soon as they enter the compound of the centre, the principal at the place is really welcoming of their visit, the children waved happily and jump in excitement during our visitation.

The visit is followed by the greeting from the contact person, Mr. Gigy from the association. Our group leader, Be Kok How later requested Mr. Gigy to allow us to carry out a 3 days 2 nights volunteerism activity at their place to fulfill our task complement for our Social Engagement course
( GIG1005 ). After a considerable discussion, Mr. Gigy give us the golden opportunity to do something meaningful for these lovely angels. All Group 10 members agreed to the happening date which had been set on 19-21 April 2019.

Mr.Gigy brought our members a short tour around the centre. Our members recounted their visit and share to us that the place the children live in is really clean and comfortable. Mr. Gigy also introduced them the number of children the association adopted and various condition of these special children. We were given some tips on the Do's and Don'ts and suggestion of activities at the centre as a early insights before we start off the planning of our program tentative. Mr. Gigy told us that there have been many volunteers , schools and universities students running interesting activities for the kids. The visitors also painted decorative murals as a memory.

It was a very wonderful place for special kids with encouraging environment suitable them to grow and feel loved just like normal people. Looking at how well-organized this place and how professional their management team was, our whole team are so excited to meet them soon!

It's our chance to show our love and affection for these beautiful kids. Let us give something meaningful to the society.
